July is the time where students that are wanting to attend university are split into two categories – those eager to accept their offers from university after results day & those who are unsure about their options and considering what UCAS Clearing has to offer.

So, even after all your hard work there can still be a number of reasons you might be considering looking into UCAS Clearing, and whatever that reason may be – we want to reassure you that you have no reason to worry.

UCAS Clearing is a process that opened on the 5th of July 2022 for students who have changed their mind, haven’t met their requirements, or missed application deadlines, etc.

Keep reading for an insight to UCAS Clearing:

  • UCAS clearing closes on the 18th of October 2022 – providing plenty of time after you have received your exam results.
  • You must have paid the full £26.50 UCAS application fee in order to make an application after 30 June.
  • Prepare by looking at alternative courses and universities, be ready to show your motivation and gather as much information as possible before making your Clearing application choice.
  • Be ready to sell yourself to your chosen course/university. They want to know why they should accept you and why you can be an asset to them. Think about your aspirations and career ambitions. You can practice what you want to say with a family member or friend to make this process a little less daunting.
  • Once you have been accepted by your chosen university you must select “Add a Clearing Choice” on your UCAS account. UCAS will then confirm the details with your chosen university from there and will formally accept you if you have been successful.

As mentioned above, you have no need to worry – however it is important to be prepared for what is to come next so plan appropriately and good luck!

The personal statement is a key part of any UCAS application. It’s the part of the application where you, the applicant, have the most control. You’ve got 4000 characters including spaces (about one side of A4) to tell the admissions tutor your personal story.
